“As principal I had three goals with the Read-a-thon fundraiser: 1) make money in a pandemic environment that restricted fundraising efforts, 2) promote reading and our literacy initiatives, 3) boost school spirit and morale. I also needed something that would be a minimal work demand for parents, teachers and me!
The Read-a-thon surpassed all my goals! [It got] kids more excited about reading in all different contexts. It's easy, it's quick and reinforces the reading & fun connection. It really brought our school together in a friendly and spirited way with the additional teacher and principal incentives. And it was so EASY for sponsors. I thought I set the goal too high at $15,000, as we have a small enrollment, but decided to go for it. When we surpassed the goal at $17,000, I was thrilled. We have all decided to make this a yearly fundraiser.”
